1. Detail History of Establishment of our Institution, Basic Training Centre, Dalgaon,Darrang:

The Basic Training Centre, Dalgaon was established in the year 1959 covering the land 32 Bighas 2kothas 2Lesa. Earlier it was established at Mangaldai town in 1949, later it was sifted to Dalgaon town in 1959. It was established by the Government of Assam which was directed by the Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam from its birth.

There was no provision to coach the Elementary Teachers at that time in this District and on that occasion it was established as to impart sufficient training to the In-service Teachers. The curriculum of the training course was based on the Basic Education of Mahatma Gandhi and accordingly the Institution was named as Basic Training Centre. From the beginning of this Institution, several training courses were done such as formal education, Non formal education, work education art & craft education, physical education etc. Apart from this, preparing curriculum, text book and other training module etc done by the faculties of this institute under the guidance of SCERT, Assam. Besides this school visit & academic support were also doing from time to time. The trainees did their practice classes mainly at Dalgaon attached practice teaching a Lower Primary School which was also a part of this institution located in the same campus. The courses were named as Basic Training Course and Junior Basic Training Course at that time.

2.Objective of Establishment:

The objective of establishment was to impart Basic Training Course for the Elementary Teachers. Apart from formal education; work education, art & craft education, physical education, value education etc. were also included in the course curriculum for the all round training of the elementary teachers.

Basic objective is to provide academic support, need based short term training and formal training for the academic growth of Elementary Teachers

3.Role and Function:

Role of this institution was to provide Basic Education to the Elementary Teachers of Darrang Districts at its time of establishment and the teacher educators are being doing their functions to impart the formal education, work education, art and craft education, physical education etc. Apart from it, need based training to the teachers.

From the time of its establishment, upto to year 2012, Basic Training Course & Junior Basic Training Courses were done here to the in-service elementary teachers.

Beyond 2012, according to the guidelines from MHRD, Govt. of India, this institution becomes liable to recognize under NCTE norms and regulation for providing D.El.Ed. (Diploma in Elementary Education). This course becomes applicable for both pre-service elementary teachers and in-service Elementary Teachers.

After getting the NCTE recognition vide letter No-ER-211.6.5/ERCAPP2074/D.El.Ed/2016/45763 dated – 27/04/2016, our institution is providing the D.El.Ed. Courses with an intake capacity of 50 tarinees per year under the rule and regulation of NCTE. The course duration is 2 years which consists of 4 semesters.
